Keep calm and Avo on!
How to sprout an avocado pit.
To sprout an avocado pit, gently wash the pit, then insert 3 toothpicks (like a tripod) about halfway into the widest part of the pit, ensuring the pointed end faces upwards. Place the pit over a glass of water so the bottom half of the pit is submerged, allowing the roots to grow from the bottom while the pointed top remains dry; keep the water fresh and place the glass in a warm, bright location; once the roots are a few inched long, you can plant the pit in soil with the root end down.
Key points:
-
Identify the top and bottom of the pit: The pointed end is the top, and the flat end is the bottom which should be submerged in water.
-
Use toothpicks: Insert toothpicks at the widest part of the pit to hold it suspended over the water.
-
Water maintenance: Regularly change the water to prevent bacteria growth.
-
Warm environment: Place the glass in a warm, bright spot to encourage germination.
-
Transplant to soil: Once roots are established, carefully plant the pit in a pot with potting soil.
